I am seeking a second term as a state senator representing the 4th Senatorial District. During my first term I've served on numerous committees, including the Commerce Committee, the Veteran's Affairs Committee and the Health, Education and Employment Committee, to name a few. It has been my mission to unite differing viewpoints and use synergy to reach unilateral solutions. With my colleagues in office I have drafted legislation that brought millions of dollars' worth of funding for education projects, developed a health care plan that brought insurance coverage to hundreds of thousands of qualified children, drafted more inclusive health plans for veterans, advocated recruitment and training of skilled employees on a local level and am continuing my crusade for local energy solutions.
I started my career in public service 20 years ago as an attorney for injured workers, acting as a voice for those who needed medical care through their employer or insurance company. I have always been actively involved in the community-- volunteering in hospitals, libraries and shelters and organizing events to raise awareness for health concerns like diabetes, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy. I have been married for 27 years to my wife, Betty, and have two children: Jake, 14, and Lars, 12. My wife and I are pet lovers-- we have two dogs and four cats, and we raise horses, goats and llamas on our farm just outside of Capital City.
